Energy Modelling Services

Our services include:

Thermal comfort modelling (CIBSE TM52 and TM59) – allowing us to evaluate and mitigate overheating risk following CIBSE memorandum and Part O regulations for dwellings. We can also use these results to award BREEAM credits and inform the energy strategy.

Daylight modelling (CIBSE LG10) – informing the building design to reduce energy demands and improve occupant satisfaction.

Operational modelling (CIBSE TM54, NABERS UK and Design for Performance) - enabling a comprehensive view of all energy use in the building to set and monitor performance targets, achieve BREEAM credits and influence the design at planning to reduce running costs and carbon in the future. We do this by looking at the target and achieved Energy Use Intensity EUI, which can be made even more accurate by the Design for Performance process and detailed HVAC modelling.

Post-occupancy modelling (CIBSE TM63 and Digital Twinning) - we offer post occupancy reviews and can used metered data to calibrate our design models to get a validated picture of energy use in a building.

Carbon Plan Engineering utilise Dynamic Simulation Modelling (DSM) software to evaluate and improve building design and to ensure that BREEAM credits and planning targets are met. With our knowledge of building physics and Design Builder software we can produce thermal models and simulation analysis with CIBSE regional (current and future) climate data. This information is coordinated with architects and contractors to optimise the building right from the design stage.

These services are all interrelated and used to inform the Part L model, planning strategy and BREEAM. Early integration of these modelling processes with an in-house team plays an essential part in reducing project risk and costs.

We provide expert advice with regards to project compliance from pre-planning to post-occupancy. Our accredited CIBSE LCC (Low Carbon Consultants) provide a full suite of Part L (and Section 6) advice; delivering compliance calculations for both residential and non-domestic projects.
